Hi. I'm David and this blog is a personal project to provide a free, no advertising, site for every day people to study Gnostic teachings.
In my studies I have sifted through mistranslated of the Christian Bible as well as the recently discover Nag Hammadi and other "Gnostic" Scriptures - the same scriptures studied by early Christians but banned as heretical roughly 350 years after the crucifixion of Jesus.
I have learned that key words being mistranslated in the Old and New Testament have caused Christianity to take a very dark turn away from the message of Christ and toward what Christ trying to show as a path away from - the control of humanity, through Religion.
My studies of the Nag Hammadi scriptures have only strengthened my faith in God and has given me a stronger faith in Gods wish that all of his children be happy. Not just some who may refer to themselves as the "Elect" but to all people born in the past, present and future.
Clearly I do not accept everything that I read in these documents but they do offer insight into what early Christians were thinking. Please use this in conjunction with your conventional studies of the Old and New Testament, Torah, etc..
I hope my insights will help others to connect with God in themselves and to see the light of God in all his people. I am convinced that all people are placed, by God, into this world and into each family - spotted across the globe - for a specific reason and that each person shall experience life differently - each life different and unique and tailored for each child to experience and learn something unique.
If you would like to study the Nag Hammadi Scriptures in depth with the latest, in my opinion, superior translation to the older translations presented here than you need to get a copy of " The Nag Hammadi Scriptures - edited by Marvin Meyer published in 2007. It is a "Must Have" for any serious student. As well I suggest that you find books written by Elaine Pagels.
.My goal is to peel back the layers of of what has become today's Christianity and get back, as close as possible, to the pure and unfiltered message of Christ.
SUGGESTED READING:
The Gnostic Gospels are a vast collection of literature and it would be easy to get lost. I suggest studying in the following order:
1) Thomas Christianity. The Gospel of Thomas is especially noteworthy and may predate other books of the New Testament and is told to be a collection of actual expressions of Jesus.
2) Valentinian Gospels. These Gospels are considered the highest form of Gnostic thought.
3) Gospel of Mary in the Berlin Gnostic group. In this Gospel Mary Magdalene is equal to other disciples and is not portrayed as a prostitute, rather and extremely enlightened follower of Christ. In the times of Jesus if one wanted to discredit a woman the easiest and most direct way was to call her a prostitute. I think that this gospel helps right that wrong.
On a side note I think that you will observe, as I have, that the Gnostic gospels demonstrates in many passages that women and men in the physical world are equals. As you study other parts of the Gnostic scriptures you will find that "Male" and "Female" in the spiritual sense are either Male -Christ consciousness or Female - Humanity. Only when the spiritual male "Christ consciousness" and the female "Humanity" are combined that then and only then do you have perfection - Christ on Earth, for example. In this sense all of humanity, regardless of gender is "female" and when we step up in Christ consciousness we are made complete in the "Bridal Chamber". Look for the many references to the "Bridal Chamber" in many gospels and I think you will understand what the gospel authors are trying to convey.
Read more at your leisure. You will find some of the writings interesting and insightful and others not. The point is, in my opinion, to move closer to Christ. I am confident that students of this literature will become changed for the better and that this positive change will impact the world in a positive way.
